Felton Environmental Improvements
To improve the resilience and enhance the performance of the sewer network a project was launched in 2025 which will see Northumbrian Water investing up £25m in the Felton drainage catchment over the next few years. This work will ensure we deliver sewerage services that meet the needs of current and future generations by improving the water quality of the River Coquet by reducing storm overflow spill frequency for the benefit of the residents, the environment and wildlife.
While we are not currently able to share details on our proposals, the solutions will involve a combination of surface water separation, sustainable drainage solutions such as nature-based attenuation basins, rain gardens, swales and tree pits along with more conventional drainage improvements such as sewer storage tanks, new pipework and chambers.
Start Date: Construction commencing summer 2027
Estimated End Date: March 2030
Partner: Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB)
Investment Value: Up to £25 million
