Witton Gilbert Environmental Improvements

Project Overview

We're investing in improvements at Witton Gilbert as part of a wider programme to help protect and improve our local rivers and streams.

The work will help reduce the amount of phosphorus entering nearby watercourses. While phosphorus occurs naturally, too much can encourage excessive algae growth, which can affect water quality and make it harder for wildlife to thrive.

To address this, we're installing new treatment equipment at the site. Witton Gilbert is one of 27 locations across the North East receiving environmental upgrades as part of our commitment to improving river health and supporting nature recovery.

These improvements will help create healthier habitats and improve water quality for future generations.
