Tow Law Environmental Improvements

Project Overview

Northumbrian Water is investing money to improve water quality and protect the local environment around Tow Law. The project will enhance sewage treatment at Tow Law Wastewater Treatment Works, provide a new pipeline to move the final treated water discharge point, and reduce spills from three storm overflows.

The work will protect around 3km of local watercourses, including Heatherley Clough, Houselop Beck and the River Wear, as well as the River Deerness. Construction is planned to begin in early 2027, with the project delivering long-term benefits for customers, local communities and the environment.

📅 Start Date: September 2024

📅 Estimated End Date: November 2029
