South Stanley and Craghead Environmental Improvements
We’re investing in work across the area to protect the environment by reducing flood risk and spills from storm overflows. This will be delivered across three projects.
The Northumbria Integrated Drainage Partnership (NIDP) – represented in the area by Northumbrian Water, the Environment Agency and Durham County Council - has undertaken study work to investigate the risk of flooding in areas of South Stanley and Craghead.
Following this work we have successfully bid for funding to undertake construction work in and around the Park Road area of South Moor, to separate the surface water network from what are currently combined sewers, which take sewage from homes and businesses as well as rainwater.
Further work is planned in and around the Avon Road area of South Stanley, while Northumbrian Water is also investing in additional work to reduce spills from storm overflows and protect the environment.
