Project: Slaley Improvements WINEP

As part of the Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP), we will be installing a new chemical dosing plant (electro coagulation) and replacing parts of the existing treatment process to enable the site to meet the forthcoming phosphorous discharge consent of 0.7 mg/l, which will apply from December 2024. The improvement works will cost £5M and is one of 27 sites within the NWG region to receive this upgrade. Phosphorous is a nutrient and can cause algae to grow in watercourses, reducing biodiversity and river water quality.

Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Good morning, everyone,I hope you’re all well and enjoyed the weekend.It’s been another gloriously sunny month at Slaley Treatment works and the Project is closer to completion. We now have the treatment assets commissioned and the effluent leaving the site is within the new required standard of cleanliness. Other works completed include: Pipework has been heated and lagged to be better resistant to cold temperatures. Security fencing has been installed around the site perimeter. The collapsed drainpipe under the lane leading to Pry Cottage has been replaced. Footpaths and handrails for site walkways. Concrete tanker bay. Removal of big cabins in compound. The project will soon be coming to a close but over the next few weeks there are still some jobs to be completed, such as: Removal of stone car park and reinstatement of field. Stoning up of site road. Resurfacing and reinstatement of lane and verges. Reinstatement of stock proof fencing. General landscaping. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Its that time of month again to provide you with an update on the works here at Slaley, we have made great progress over the past month with the installation of concrete walkways for easy access around the site, we have also completed the insulation and trace heating on most of the pipework, this is to prevent heat loss, condensation and freezing of the pipes on site, as well as installing the humus de-sludge tank, this will now allow us to effectively treat the sludge which collects at the base of the humus settlement tank.I would like to thank you for your patience while the works continue. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Welcome to your first update of 2025, here at Slaley treatment works, had a challenging start to the year due to the wintery conditions but we are back on track and making good progress. We have now completed the pipework at the balance flow chamber which is designed to ensure a steady flow of water into the subsequent treatment process along with the sludge tank which is designed to store and process organic, inorganic materials and suspended solids which are separated from the treated water during various stages of the treatment process. The Humus settlement tank de-sludge slab is cast and the temporary Aquazone ferric dosing kiosk is in place. This is an integrated system that supports the operation of the wastewater process.We have now begun repurposing the old Final Settlement Tank into a pumping station, the coping wall and scaffolding are in place, ready for pumps and pipework to be installed later this month.We would like to thank you all for your continued support and patience while the work continues, but in the meantime, if you have any questions or queries please leave a comment below or use the details provided to contact us and one of the team will be happy to help.

Go Vocal Admin1 year ago This month we have completed both the primary settlement tank and the humus settlement tank with flows now diverted through these new assets allowing us to start repurposing the old tanks as a storm tank and pumping station respectively. The site returns pumping station is also fully operational now and with the help of Northern power grid we have upgraded the site electricity supply to three phase power meaning the site and temporary cabins can run without the use of generators from now on. The Mecana units which use a cloth type filter to treat the effluent prior to releasing back to the environment have been now been delivered with a view to put flows through these and the Soneco electrocoagulation filters before the end of the year, meaning lower phosphorus levels in the final effluent. We have had a very productive year with much of the new treatment facilities up and running, however, there is still further work to be completed in the new year such as the construction of the new sludge tank and modifications to existing assets to create more storm storage.

Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Good progress has been made on site this month, we have poured the concrete slab for the Soneco feed and installed the pipework upon this slab. We have also poured concrete steps to the where the Mecana unit (filtration system) will be situated. The site returns pumping station has been installed including, valve slab, pipework and ducting. Along with our subcontractors WCS, we have installed the Humus settlement tank which removes the smaller solids from the waste water, and are now underway with backfilling the tank. Works have also begun on the installation of the Primary settlement tank, which is used in the initial stages of treatment process it removes floating solids from the waste water. Prior to the Northern Powergrid mains upgrade, the treatment works will be temporarily running on generator power, however, these upgrades are due to be completed by the end of November.I would like to thank you once again for your continued support while the works on site continue.
