Community Hub Admin Team •1 day ago Hi everyone,We want to keep you informed about the progress of our £11 million investment programme to improve and protect the local environment in Sedgeletch. This work will enhance water quality in the Lumley Burn and ensure that our treatment facility continues to serve the community effectively for the future. What will happen?Ahead of the main improvement works, we will be carrying out essential preparation activities to ensure the site is safe, compliant, and ready for construction. These activities include vegetation clearance along Herrington Burn, within Elba Park, and near the A183 in the Lambton area.As detailed in our previous letter, work to clear some vegetation commenced on 23 March 2026, with completion expected by 10 April 2026. Working with our supply partner, Avove, and contractor, Premier Landscaping, we will be undertaking the planned vegetation removal, which will include the removal of a small number of trees, general vegetation clearance, and the treatment and control of giant hogweed. In addition, ecology surveys will be carried out throughout April to ensure full compliance with environmental legislation and to protect local wildlife. These surveys will include protected species assessments, and surveys of the surrounding habitat. Please see below for a plan of the impacted area. These essential tasks will provide safe access for our teams and create the conditions required for the larger improvement works that will follow. We fully understand the importance of the natural environment and want to reassure you that any vegetation removed as part of these early works will be appropriately restored once the main project is complete. Please also be assured that any findings from our ecological surveys will be carefully managed, and work will proceed only in line with ecological best practice and relevant environmental approvals.Following this, work to set up a site compound will commence on 14th May with work to commence on upgrading the treatment facility following this. There will be a further letter closer to this date to give further details on the planned work.We would also like to let you know of an upcoming community day in your area. We will be at Elba Park on 22nd April 2026. This is an opportunity to meet members of the Northumbrian Water team and ask any questions you may have, as well as meeting team members from our partner, Avove, who will be supporting us to carry out work in the area. How will I be affected?During 23rd March – 10th April period, you may notice increased activity on and around the site, including additional vehicles and some noise associated with our operations. Our working hours will be 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. From 14th May onwards, once the site compound has been established and work begins on the pipeline transfer, you may notice an increase in activity around the area. This could include a higher volume of construction vehicles accessing the site, the movement of machinery, and a general rise in noise levels during working hours. There may also be temporary changes to pedestrian routes or short‑term traffic management measures to ensure the safety of both the public and our workforce. While we will do everything possible to minimise disruption, some visual and audible impact is expected as the project progresses.
