Sedgefield Water Pipe Upgrade

Project Overview

Work is set to start on the upgrade to water pipes near Sedgefield, County Durham. This £345,000 investment will support domestic, as well as commercial and industrial growth in the area. It will also help to protect existing customers, by upgrading the local network to meet this additional demand.

📍 Where will we be working?

The work will largely take place within the verge of the A177, running south from the High Road junction before turning into the northern end of NetPark.

🚦 Traffic Management

Traffic management will be required, to ensure the safety of the team, and of motorists. This will be manned between 7am and 7pm and will be clearly signposted. Most of the work will be on the southbound carriageway, carried out utilising traffic lights, to avoid requiring a road closure.

Community Hub Admin Team 1 month ago Hi everyonefurther to our previous letter, I am writing to provide an update on our planned NIDP works. The environmental investigations referred to in our earlier correspondence have now been fully completed, which will allow the project to be delivered responsibly and in a way that protects the local environment. We are pleased to confirm that the works are scheduled to commence on 14 September 2026.The programme of work across the estate will be delivered in five phases, which have been detailed and set out below to ensure all residents are aware when works are expected to take place on or near their street. As previously advised, the works will be delivered in phases and carefully planned stages to help minimise disruption to residents and maintain access wherever possible.What will happenAs a result, we have updated the programme and revised the dates previously communicated for each phase of the works. The updated schedule is provided below to ensure residents understand when works are expected to take place in their area and to allow as much advance notice as possible.Each phase of the project will require a temporary road closure on sections of the carriageway, which will restrict vehicle access during the dates shown. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and, where practicable, sections of the carriageway will be reopened on a rolling basis as works progress.Once the main works within each section have been completed, a temporary reinstatement of the carriageway will be carried out to restore access as quickly as possible. We will then return at a later date, towards the end of each phase, to undertake the permanent carriageway reinstatement. We anticipate that these final reinstatement activities will be minimal and will typically require only one to two days within the overall programme for each phase. Further updates, including more specific timings, will be provided as work progresses within each area.Please see the map below, which illustrates the planned phases of work and the areas affected throughout the project. Phase 1Works within the cul-de-sac at The Leas are scheduled to take place from 14 September 2026 until 12 March 2027. During this period, there will be two phases of excavation works: the first from 14 September to 18 December 2026, and the second from 4 January to 12 March 2027. These works are required to enable improvements to both the surface water network and, later in the programme, the foul water infrastructure.Throughout these phases, we will make every effort to minimise disruption and maintain vehicle access for residents wherever possible. While access will be restricted at certain times due to the nature and location of the excavation works, roads will not be fully blocked throughout the periods shown. Our delivery partner Seymour’s Civil Engineering team will work closely with impacted households, providing advance notice of any access arrangements and regular updates on timescales and any temporary restrictions to help residents plan ahead and minimise inconvenience.Phase 2Works will move onto the main section of The Leas (turning left from the cul-de-sac) from 30 October 2026 until 18 December 2026.Phase 3Works will then commence on The Leas, to the right of the cul-de-sac, from 11 February 2027 to 24 March 2027.Phase 4Works will then move onto Cragside from 25 March 2027 to 16 April 2027Phase 5Works are scheduled to commence at the junction of Cragside and The Meadows from 25 March 2027, before progressing northwards, and are expected to continue until 15 June 2027.As works progress through each phase, we will continue to provide residents with regular updates and advance notification of upcoming activities, access arrangements and any specific impacts affecting their area. We are committed to keeping customers informed throughout the project and will work closely with those affected to minimise disruption wherever possible. Our aim is to complete the works safely, efficiently and with as little inconvenience to residents as possible while delivering these important improvements to the wastewater and surface water networks.Please see the enclosed plans for details of the traffic management arrangements that will be implemented to support the road closures and diversion routes throughout the works programme.
