Ouseburn Wastewater Improvements

Project Overview

We're investing up to £6 million in the Ouseburn and Longbenton area over the next five years to help improve local river water quality and reduce the number of storm overflow spills into the Ouseburn.

This work is part of our wider commitment to protect and improve the environment across our region.

To help us plan the improvements, we're currently carrying out surveys to better understand how the wastewater network operates today. The information we gather will help us identify the most effective solutions for the area.

While our plans are still being developed, the improvements are likely to include a mix of measures that reduce the amount of rainwater entering the sewer network. This could include features such as rain gardens, tree pits and other sustainable drainage solutions that help manage rainwater naturally, alongside upgrades to existing pipes and storage facilities where needed.

These improvements will help create a more resilient wastewater network and support healthier local waterways for the future.
