Hury Reservoir Upgrade
Northumbrian Water has recently launched a £15 million pound project to carry out upgrades at Hury Reservoir over the next three years.
The project will help to ensure the site continues to work effectively and reliably to serve both the local and wider community.
Hury Reservoir is part of a series of reservoirs in the River Balder valley which plays an important role in supporting local water supply, river flows, and renewable energy.
To ensure it continues to operate safely and effectively, it requires both regular maintenance and periodic upgrades, in line with our legal obligations under the Reservoirs Act.
Working with our Supply Partner Esh Stantec, these works will be spread over two separate phases on the Siphon and Spillway areas of the Reservoir.
The planned works will take place over a three‑year period, starting on the 1st of June 2026 through to June 2029.
Work will be carried out between March and November each year for safety reasons.
We’ll begin with improvements to the Siphon first which are expected to be fully completed by August 2027, followed by work on the Spillway through to June 2029.
Start Date: June 2026
Estimated End Date: June 2029
