Hesleden Dene Pipe Bridge

This project aims to reduce the risk of pollution to the watercourse at Hesleden Dene. We are investing over £8 million to construct a new sewer system, replacing the existing above-ground sewer pipe bridge, which will be demolished as part of the works.

Whilst the pipelaying works, working areas and site compound will be in private land at either side of the Hart to Haswell Walkway (south-west of Hesleden Working Mens Club), vehicular access to the working areas and site compound will be needed via Hesleden Village. Additionally, there’ll be restrictions in place at various times along the section of the Hart to Haswell Walkway we’ll be working on.

Community Hub Admin Team 4 weeks ago Hi all,As we move into this week, the Site Team will be continuing with planned works as the project progresses. Materials have now been cleared from the pipe bridge area. Across the surrounding fields, we have completed the necessary working platforms and access routes. We are also aware of materials that have recently been left on the lane leading to our Site Compound. Please be assured that these do not relate to the Hesleden Pipe Bridge Project. Community Hub Admin Team 2 months ago Hi everyone,I hope you’re having a great week so far.We would like to share an update on the works taking place on Site this week as we continue progressing through the early stages of the project.The Site Cabins have now been installed and will become fully operational over the next week.This week, the team will be completing the strengthening works to the bridleway, helping to ensure safe access for both the public and site traffic.In addition, the Site Team will begin importing stone to create a road up to the pipe bridge and establish a working platform. This platform will support the safe demolition of the pipe bridge when we reach that stage. The enabling works required for the demolition are expected to take approximately two weeks. We will provide a further update once we are ready to move into the demolition phase.Stone will also be placed in areas within the surrounding fields as part of the ongoing preparation works.Please keep an eye on the Hub for continued updates as the project progresses. Community Hub Admin Team 3 months ago Hi everyone,Happy New Year!It was great to meet those of you who attended our Customer Event on 10 December at Hesleden Working Men’s Club. We appreciate that not everyone could make it, so I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Colin Short, and I am Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager for this scheme. I’ll be overseeing the project through to its completion.Over the next month, our site team will begin enabling works, including vegetation clearance and creating additional passing places along the bridleway. We will also be setting up our site compound in the Quarry site.Following these enabling works, construction will commence. This will involve installing approximately 575 metres of new underground sewer to replace the existing above-ground sewer pipe bridge at Hesleden Dene, which will be demolished.As the project progresses, we’ll share regular updates throughout the construction phase.
