Go Vocal Admin•8 months ago Hi everyone,We’re planning some work in your area and are seeking your viewsAt Northumbrian Water we want to let you know details of essential work we are planning in your area to help improve the environment. We are investing £1.7 billion from 2025 to 2030 in an environmental programme, to reduce storm overflow (SOs) spills and help improve the environment. In our business plan for that period, we have committed to invest in interventions on 239 storm overflows, including those in the Hawthorn area. What we are planning and when We want to share our proposals with you to understand your views about this work and how we can minimise any disruption you may experience once the work is underway.Together with our partners, Jacobs and Mott MacDonald Bentley, we are currently investigating potential solutions to improve the performance of the sewer network in Hawthorn. The work proposed is the construction of an underground Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) with associated pipework to transfer sewer flows to Seaham Sewage Treatment Works (STW). You may notice our trusted partner, Mott MacDonald Bentley, carrying out surveys in the area as part of our investigations. We estimate completing these investigations by the end of 2025, with the proposed site works taking place between April 2026 and March 2027. We will provide further programming information in due course. You can also find out more information about our project on our community hub portal at communityhub.nwl.co.uk and following the link to Hawthorn SPS page. Regular updates will be posted, and you will find advice and answers to some frequently asked questions.I have enclosed a plan which shows the areas that we propose to be working in.
