Hawthorn Sewage Pumping Station

As part of the Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP), we are investigating transferring sewage flows from Hawthorn Sewage Treatment Works to Seaham Sewage Treatment Works via a new Sewage Pumping Station to improve quality of Hawthorn Burn.

The improvement works will cost around £5.3m, and it’s one of many sites within the region to receive investment.

Investing in Drainage

A project has recently been launched which will see Northumbrian Water planning to invest £5.3m in Hawthorn to improve water quality of the Hawthorn Burn by reducing storm overflows and transferring flows to Seaham Sewage Treatment Works. We are currently carrying out survey work within the village of Hawthorn and Seaham to better understand the current performance of our sewerage network. This will help us plan improvement works. While we are not yet able to share details on improvement proposals, it is likely that the solution will involve a Sewage Pumping Station in Hawthorn.
