We are investing £2.2 million to improve the safety and resilience of Fenham service reservoir.

Service reservoirs form part of the company’s drinking water network, holding treated water ready to supply customers across the area.

Work on the site, which is expected to take up to a year to complete, includes work to renew parts of the reservoir, including valves and penstocks.

Community Hub Admin Team 1 month ago Completion of work at Fenham ReservoirHelloWe are pleased to let you know that our work to improve the safety and resilience of Fenham Service Reservoir is now complete.As part of this £2.2 million investment, we have delivered a range of improvements to enhance the safety, capacity and operational resilience of the reservoir, helping to secure a reliable water supply for the local community for years to come.As the project reaches its conclusion, you may notice some continued activity on site over the coming weeks. This will include the removal of equipment and site facilities, final inspections, and the completion of any minor outstanding works as part of our demobilisation process.We would like to thank residents and businesses for their patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout the project. Your support has been greatly appreciated while we have carried out these essential improvements.This will be our final Community Hub update for the Fenham Service Reservoir project. Community Hub Admin Team 5 months ago Hi everyone,The Team on site have made some great progress that we wanted to share with you.We’ve successfully installed and tested the new east main water valve and its operating equipment. The new drainage valves are also in place, and the existing drainage pipe has been cleaned and checked. Temporary scaffolding has now been removed, and the original floor has been fully reinstated.The project is now largely complete, with just one final step remaining.If you have any questions you'd like to ask us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!Many thanks,The Project Team

Community Hub Admin Team 8 months ago Hi everyone,I hope you are well and enjoyed the weekend.We would like to provide you with an update on the ongoing works and progress made recently.We’re pleased to confirm that installation of the three refurbished inlet‑pipe headstocks has now been completed. In addition, all four new scour valves along with their associated spindles and headstocks are fully installed.We are currently awaiting the drainage of the east cell. Here’s what’s been achieved since our last update: Internal pipework painting is now complete. The second penstock has been delivered and installed into the west cell, and dry testing has been successfully carried out. In the New Year, we’ll gain entry into the east cell to complete the spindle and headstock, paving the way for commissioning works to proceed. Go Vocal Admin10 months ago Hi everyone,Following our previous update, we’re pleased to share that significant progress has been made on the Fenham Reservoir project.East Cell Drain Down & Penstock InstallationThe East cell was successfully drained, allowing for the installation of the new penstock.Safety Measures ImplementedA temporary encapsulation cover has been fitted over the penstock, providing an additional layer of safety for the next phase of works.Current StatusThe East cell is now in the refill and testing phase before being brought back into service.We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation throughout these essential works. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Hi everyone,I wanted to share a quick update on the recent progress we've made as the Project continues to move forward.The west cell has now been successfully brought back into service, which allows us to drain down the east cell in preparation for the next phase of works starting next week. As part of this phase, scaffold access will be installed to enable safety isolations to proceed. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Hi everyone, I hope you are well.Since our previous update, there are some progress updates that I wanted to share with you.You may have noticed that the scaffold has been erected to the front of the valve house to allow easier access for unloading of deliveries. The main work activities are within the below ground chambers of the reservoir and are not visible to the public.The western cell has been drained down completely allowing a temporary enclosure plate to be installed. This was followed by minor structural concrete repairs being completed last week. Re-filling of the west cell should commence later this week after the repairs have been tested and proven to be watertight.In the next couple of weeks, the old, corroded bolts from the pipe joints will be removed and replaced with new ones. Three of the headstocks (controls for opening and closing the inlet valves) will be taken away to be refurbished. To allow safe loading of these it will be necessary to install part-time temporary traffic lights on West Road for 1 day only.We will provide further updates and information in due course. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I’m Colin Short, Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager and I’ll be looking after this scheme through to its completion. The scheme will be delivered by Northumbrian Water’s delivery partner Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB).The majority of our work will be carried out within the covered service reservoir cells and the adjacent valve house within the site, but we do need to set up a temporary site compound, and carry out some minor tree pruning and access track improvement works within the site.We do, however, need to carry out some survey/investigative works on our drains and chambers in West Road (near Fenham Cottage). Traffic management will be needed for these works, and also for various deliveries to the valve house.The team will post regular updates throughout our works.
