Cambois Environmental Improvement

We're investing approximately £23 million in the Cambois, Stakeford and Bedlington area to reduce storm overflow spills, helping to protect the environment of the wider area.

The scheme is expected to reduce spills from storm overflow across different 7 sites, cutting them to fewer than ten per year on average over a ten-year period.

What we're doing

As part of a four-year programme to improve storm overflows across the area, we will be carrying out a range of upgrades, including the construction of underground storage and the installation of new screening equipment.

The works will take place at the following locations:

  • Cleasewell Hill, Stakeford
  • Ashington Drive, Stakeford
  • Bank Top, Bedlington
  • Grange Park Avenue, Bedlington
  • Glaxo, Cambois
  • East Sleekburn

To help us plan and design these improvements, we need to undertake a number of site surveys. These surveys will include lifting manhole covers to verify drainage connections and carrying out ground investigations to better understand underground conditions.
