Browney Wastewater Treatment Works Upgrade

Project Overview

Over the next three years, we will be carrying out improvements across the Browney area to help protect and enhance local rivers and the surrounding environment.

As part of this investment, Browney Wastewater Treatment Works will be upgraded to improve the quality of treated wastewater before it is safely returned to the River Browney and the River Wear. These improvements will help support healthier waterways and benefit local environment.

We will also be upgrading the storm overflow at Browney Lane. This work will help reduce the number of spills to the environment during periods of heavy rainfall, improving river water quality.

Together, these improvements will play an important role in protecting local rivers and helping to create a cleaner, healthier environment for the communities that live, work, and enjoy the area.
