We are temporarily tarmacking the footpaths as we go, so that we can reopen for residents.We are progressing on Pine Street installing the surface water drainage and are extending the road closure further up pine street to the junction towards John Street.We are still progressing on the Foul Water drainage on Keswick Road. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Hello All,The team are currently breaking out and removing all worn and broken concrete from the top and sides of the short sea outfall. They will then fill in the holes using concrete, paired with basalt, light weight dowel bars and mesh (very light, but very resistant to salt water.) Work will then be bonded to form a very strong watertight seal.Work on the long sea outfall has begun with the renewal of the upper and lower supports that straddle the pipe leading into the sea. This involves cutting and removing the existing wooden supports off the piles and replacing with new galvanised supports. Starting Monday 12 May 2025, 3 encapsulating collars will be installed. Go Vocal Admin9 months ago Hello all,Please see below a progress update on our works in South Moor as follows;Work is currently progressing in the verge adjacent to Hustledown road as we install 225m of new combined sewer and install new manholes and upgrade existing manholes. Work is ongoing on Park Road leading to Pine Street and John Street as we install 85m of new surface water sewers and install new manholes and upgrade existing manholes.We recently wrote to residents to advise work is due to commence on Monday 27th October on Rydal Avenue, up to Windermere Terrace to install 150m of new combined sewers and install new manholes and upgrade existing manholes. Work has now been moved to the following week where a road closure will be in place from Monday 3rd November on the junction of Rydal Avenue and Keswick Road. Go Vocal Admin10 months ago Hello all, Let’s get up to speed on WINEP Great Ayton STW Storm Capacity:The shaft liner to address the shafts structural issues has been completed. Two pours were undertaken to provide a new reinforced concrete skin inside the existing shaft. All went well and we are now carrying out completion works such as benching the base and the top of liner, waterproofing the unlined rings and looking to start installation of the pipework. Scaffolding inside the shaft has commenced to facilitate this pipework install.As the main shaft structural works are now complete the dewatering has been switched off and removed. This has cleared the area and opened it up to other works.Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, Automation (MEICA) works have begun to install cabling and pump starters and integrate them with the existing site controls. This works is complete as much as possible until some ducts and the rising main are in place in the shaft area, both of which will be completed ASAP.We are currently aiming to bring the shaft into operation by the end of the month and, whilst there is still significant further works to be undertaken, this will meet our deadline and allow the new asset to further improve water quality in the local area as part of the existing treatment works. In order for these works to take place, a road closure will be in place to the rear of Fern Avenue. We expect works to be complete within 3 working days.Wednesday 1st October 2025 – 2 way traffic lights on Hustledown Road for 3 days.Wednesday 1st October 2025 – 2 way traffic lights on Park Road and a Road Closure on Pine Street whilst we make a start on installing the new pipework. We have experienced low tide either very early hours of the morning or very late afternoon, with tide heights still very high at between 2 and 4mtrs, it is virtually impossible to get where we need to be.Short Sea Outfall SSO – All bays to the top of the SSO are complete. Tapered sides of the SSO covered reinforced and covered with Fosroc 250. Lower side walls are being broken out and prepped. Again, only limited time on the lower walls this week due to the tides. The entire structure will be completely skimmed with Fosroc ST05 which will give the structure an extra 10 years of protection, adding to the 30 years protection that the Fosroc 250 offers. We expect all works to be complete on the SSO by the end of June.Long Sea Outfall LSO – Not a lot of progress on the LSO this week due to tides. We have all the upper supports in place, 7 in total. We have 8 lower supports to install, 5 of which have already been installed. We identified 2 new leaks that had not previously been seen, and authorization was sought and granted by NWL to go ahead and fix them, this will require an extended encapsulating collar of 1500mm (usually only 600mm long) being manufactured and installed. Our contractor UTS are back on-site 24th June to install this collar. Our other contractor Steelway /JHT are also back on site on the 24th June to install the final supports. We expect all works on the LSO to be complete by the end of June. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Hello all,Please see below updates for Burn Road Sea Outfalls.Short Sea Outfall – SSO Works are progressing at a rapid pace on the SSO. Approval has been granted to skim the entire structure with specialised materials, to allow the structure an extra 10 years or more of protection against the sea and weather. The scaffold is being rearranged on Tuesday 27th May to allow access to the lower SSO walls. The pad to the front of the SSO has been repaired, the old concrete cut out and existing steel work treated and sealed.Long Sea Outfall – LSOThe tide has been against us all week with limited opportunities to do any works on the LSO. That being said, since we came to site on the 31st March we have made excellent progress and had to rewrite the programme many times as we are now more than a year ahead. Of the 15 total supports we had to remove and replace, we have completed all upper supports, removed wooden ones and replaced with galvanised supports, 7 in total. 5 lower supports removed including shoes / pipe supports and replaced with new galvanized supports and shoes, 3 left to install. We have also removed various supports along the length of the LSO upper and lowers to accommodate the new encapsulating collars that are being fitted.Long Sea Outfall – LSOAfter removing the lower and upper supports for our first encapsulation collar it became clear that the underside of the pipe had deteriorated massively and the standard 600mm long collar would not be enough to cover the void and the existing pipe joint. The new collar has been made and onsite the very next day so an amazing turn around. Following the previous update, traffic management did not go ahead last week as it was not needed, however, traffic lights will be set up this week whilst we take in deliveries to the compound.We are carrying out survey works on School Lane from Monday 1st September 2025, where a road closure will be in place for 5 working days. Go Vocal Admin11 months ago Hello All,Time for an update on WINEP Great Ayton STW Storm Capacity:After a re-jig of the programme to free up some work for our civils gang we have completed the interceptor chamber. This comprised cutting the existing storm overflow pipe out, constructing the weir wall from reinforced concrete, then benching out the chamber to ensure the wastewater flows in the directions we need it to. We have bunged off the inlet pipe from here to the new storm tank as part of that pipework is not in place and the storm tank/shaft is still being worked on.We have agreed a solution to correct the issues with the shaft and that is now well underway. Due to the ovality of the shaft a new liner is to be poured inside the structure to guarantee its structural strength. This will be done in two pours. The reinforcement for the first pour is complete and the formwork progressing well, so that we hope to have a concrete pour early next week.The dewatering continues to be in operation with EA agreement. We hope to be in a position to switch this off by the end of August. All major design work is now complete and pending review. This will soon allow all major remaining procurement to get underway and further specialist sub-contractor to commence their works.Thanks for taking the time to read.Dave Eden PM.

While there have been delays, which are not unusual for a project of this scale, we appreciate your patience and remain on track to complete by April 2026. We’ll keep you informed of any changes.Reservoir Roof DesignThe switch from a grass-covered roof to a gravel finish reflects updated industry best practice—improving water quality protection, inspection access, and long-term maintenance. With the roof now complete, it will remain as designed.We are carrying out a range of ground-level ecological enhancements, including native planting and dedicated habitat features to support biodiversity. We remain committed to enhancing the surrounding environment through visual screening, landscaping, and ecological improvements.Security FenceAs confirmed on 26 September, the fence height will be reduced from 2.4m to 1.8m. Following community feedback, the fence line has also been reviewed. While the northern section will remain for operational reasons, the eastern and western sections will be moved inward to create more public space.Northern Access RoadWe understand some disappointment around the decision to use Tarmac instead of Grasscrete. Tarmac offers greater durability, safety, and ease of maintenance—especially in wet conditions and under heavy vehicle use. Grasscrete would require more upkeep and may not perform as well over time.Wagon MovementThe new entry-only access road at the North East corner, connecting to Mount Park Road, supports safer and more efficient vehicle movements. It also helps reduce wagon idle time and avoid delays during winter.We’re actively managing movements to minimise disruption: Mount Lane remains the primary delivery route; North East access is used only when needed. No queuing on public roads. Banksmen guide vehicles safely. Dust suppression, daily road sweeping, and wheel washers are in place. Movements are reduced during peak traffic times. Regular reviews ensure operations remain safe and efficient. We’re working with the local council to maintain Mount Lane, with temporary pothole repairs underway and resurfacing scheduled post-completion.Landscaping & BiodiversityLandscaping is an important priority. Together with MMB, we’ve developed a plan to increase and improve biodiversity on the site from its original condition. We’ll discuss this in more detail at the SVRA meeting.Key Highlights: 28 new trees (oak, field maple, cherry, goat willow). 3:1 tree replacement along the pipeline route. Hedgerow restoration to achieve up to 4x the meterage lost. Species-rich grassland and wetland planting to support pollinators. Five-year maintenance commitment for hedges on-site. We’re also exploring community engagement in early 2026, including: Nature-based activities with local schools (e.g. bug hotels). Tree adoption dedication to build lasting community connections. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago I would like to introduce myself. I am Rowena Usher - Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager and I will be looking after this scheme through to its completion. At this early stage, we will be carrying out survey work along the coastline adjacent to Dunstanburgh Road and along W End Road following the route of the current underground network. This will help us plan the most suitable solution with a detailed understanding of the physical and natural environment.Once we have more clarification about the proposed solution, we will provide updates on our plans and proposals with you on this Community Hub. Subject to approvals, we expect to begin construction work in Autumn 2026. The team will post regular updates in advance of and throughout the construction phase of the project. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Hello All, Let's get up to date with WINEP Great Ayton STW Storm Capacity.The Interceptor Chamber Works are complete for the time being; the main structure is constructed and backfilled. We are not intending any works in this area until the back end of the job when we will cut out the storm overflow pipe currently running through the centre of the chamber, build the weir wall and bench out (sloped concrete to aid drainage). This work will divert any further storm flows into the new storm tank, but obviously this can happen until the tank/shaft is complete.Unfortunately for the shaft works, the previous assessment of the damage caused by the unexpected boulders was optimistic and the damage is more severe than predicted. This, combined with ongoing effects of that damage and possibly other boulders affecting the shaft from outside during further sinking of the shaft, has caused the shaft to deform out of tolerance. We are currently looking into best options on how to correct the issue.The dewatering continues to be in operation but with reduced flows.Whilst all major design issues are now complete or near so, further work has been paused whilst we investigate and design the solutions to the shaft issue. This solution may have knock on effects meaning some associated items need limited redesign.Thanks for taking the time to read. Dave Eden PM.

Go Vocal Admin10 months ago Further to the Springwell Village Residents’ Association (SVRA) meeting on 9 September, where we shared information and listened to feedback from the community in regard to the proposed height of the reservoir fence, we’d like to provide an update as promised.After careful consideration, further discussion and consultation with our security team and partners, we are pleased to be able to share that the height of the fence will be reduced from 2.4 metres to 1.8 metres.This decision reflects a careful balance between maintaining site security and recognising and responding to community concerns about visual impact.The reduction in planned height is possible due to the enhanced onsite security measures we have been able to put in place in close collaboration with our security teams. These improvements allow us to maintain the necessary level of protection while also being responsive to views expressed within the local community.We are carefully reviewing other feedback shared by the community and will provide further updates shortly. We remain committed to engaging constructively and openly as we continue to work towards completion of this critical project.

As part of this phase, scaffold access will be installed to enable safety isolations to proceed. Go Vocal Admin1 year ago Afternoon All,WINEP Great Ayton STW Storm Capacity is progressing so it’s time for another update:The Interceptor Chamber Works are continuing, we are now almost ready to pour the walls. Following that including, stripping the shutters, pulling the ground supports and back filling, the chamber will go on hold until we are ready to turn the flows into the new storm tank/shaft.Following some testing and minor alterations, the dewatering solution is performing, which has allowed us to restart the shaft works. We emptied the shaft of water and dug out below the cutting edge, which has allowed us to inspect the shaft for damage which may have been caused by unexpectedly large stones. The damage seems to be superficial so we have recommenced sinking the shaft, though the work may still be slower than hoped due to the stone.The major design items are now very close to completion and most of the critical materials and permanent equipment is either on site or in production off site.The main exception to this is the fabricated steelwork such as handrailing and open mesh platforms, but we do not expect this to cause us any issues.Thanks for taking the time to read.Dave Eden PM.
