Project Update 08/06/2026

Community Hub Admin Team •1 hour ago Hi everyoneWe'd like to inform you of a temporary road closure currently in place on Dock Road due to safety concerns identified during ongoing construction works.Over the weekend on Sunday 7 June 2026, it was discovered that a section of the road had become undermined adjacent to the active traffic lane. In the interest of public safety, works were immediately halted and a decision was taken to implement a road closure while the situation is assessed and stabilised. Our Partner is currently reviewing the condition of the affected area and arranging the necessary measures, such as ground support and temporary protection, before it is safe to reopen the road.We appreciate that this may cause inconvenience, and we are working to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.Thank you The Project Team

Project Update 08/06/2026

Community Hub Admin Team •3 hours ago Hi everyoneWe would like to share an update on the progress of the Northumbria Integrated Drainage Partnership (NIDP). Over the past year, we alongside our delivery partner, Seymour Civil Engineering have been carrying out detailed investigations of the wastewater network in and around The Leas, Cragside and The Meadows areas. This important work has taken longer than initially anticipated; however, it has enabled us to develop plans that we are confident will deliver a safe and sustainable solution to help reduce flood risk and support the community in the long term. What will happenWe are now ready to begin work on site within the estate. This will include the installation of new wastewater infrastructure, which will be delivered in three phases to help minimise disruption. Each phase will require a temporary road closure on sections of the carriageway, which will restrict vehicle access on the dates shown below. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Phase 1: Works will take place in The Leas cul‑de‑sac from 13 July 2026 to 4 December 2026. Phase 2: Works will move onto the main section of The Leas (turning left from the cul‑de‑sac) from 18 October 2026 to 4 December 2026. Phase 3: The final phase will progress along The Leas to the right of the cul‑de‑sac from 1 December 2026 to 29 January 2027. We would like to invite you to attend a customer information event. This will take place at Sedgefield Cricket Club, Station Road, Sedgefield, TS21 2BY, on 11 June 2026 between 16:30 and 18:30. At the event, we will provide further details about the planned works, including road closures and the installation of the rain gardens. We will also outline what to expect during the programme and be available to answer any questions you may have.We look forward to meeting you and thank you for your understanding and support as we deliver these important improvementsThank you, The Project Team

Project Update 03/06/2026

Community Hub Admin Team •5 days ago Hi everyone, We have recently installed additional flow monitors on our wastewater network in the Sedgeletch area, enhancing the monitoring already in place. These monitors are used to measure flow rates within the network, helping us to better understand how frequently discharges occur into local waterways in line with our Environmental Permit conditions set by the Environment Agency. The purpose of this enhanced monitoring is to collect more comprehensive data, enabling us to further strengthen our understanding of network capacity. This information is essential in informing the development of future improvement plans and models aimed at reducing storm overflow (SO) discharges and delivering environmental improvements across the Westbourne Drive and Shiney Row catchment areas. Please be assured that the installation and operation of these additional monitors will not impact the wastewater services we provide to you, and there is no requirement for our teams to access your home.Thank you, The Project Team

Project Update

Community Hub Admin Team •3 weeks ago Hi everyone,We wanted to provide a further update on the progress of the water booster installation.Since our last update, there has unfortunately been a further delay to the programme. This is due to an issue with a third-party contractor during the commissioning phase of the works, which has meant progress has not advanced as quickly as planned. At this stage, we are not in a position to confirm revised timescales. We understand that this lack of certainty is frustrating, however it would not be appropriate to provide a new completion date until we have a fully agreed and deliverable programme in place. Please be assured that we are continuing to work closely with all parties involved to resolve the outstanding issues and progress the commissioning phase as quickly as possible. As soon as we have an agreed timeframe for completion, we will share a further update with you.We would like to thank you again for your continued patience and understanding while we work to bring this project to completion and deliver the intended improvements to your water supply.Thank you, The Project Team

Community Hub Admin Team •1 month ago Hi everyone, We’d like to let residents know that Esh Stantec will be carrying out a vehicle trial along Dunstanburgh Road on Wednesday 13 May, between 10.30am and 11.30am.The trial will use the wagons proposed for our upcoming works. We have arranged with MGL, who operate the wagons from Longhoughton Quarry, to drive along Dunstanburgh Road and, where possible, carry out a three‑point turn at the access to the North Pier of the harbour, before returning along Dunstanburgh Road.If a three‑point turn cannot be safely carried out, the wagon may need to reverse out under the supervision of a vehicle marshal. We kindly ask pedestrians and road users to remain vigilant during this time, and we thank you for your cooperation. You will shortly receive a letter inviting you to attend the parish council meeting at 6pm on Thursday 28 May, at Craster Memorial Hall, Whin Hill, Craster, NE66 3TP. Project Update 22/04/2026

Community Hub Admin Team •2 months ago Hi everyone,This week, you can expect to see the following activities taking place on Site. Seeding across the site will begin shortly as part of the ongoing reinstatements. To support the next phase of the works, as we connect the Southern access route to Mount Lane, temporary traffic management will be in place on Mount Lane. The temporary Eastern traffic lights have now been removed. In addition, wagon movements will reduce significantly as the relocation of topsoil comes to an end, which will help minimise vehicle activity in the area. We've continued liaising with Sunderland City Council about the deterioration of the road surface along Mount Lane. The Council has confirmed that their team will attend later this week to carry out temporary repairs to the affected sections. Thanks for your continued patience and understanding while these works are completed. If you've any questions that you'd like to ask us, please don’t hesitate to add a comment in the box below and a member of the Project Team will respond accordingly. Many thanks,The Project Team

Project Update 07/04/2026

Community Hub Admin Team •2 months ago Hi everyone, As part of the Northumbria Integrated Drainage Partnership (NIDP), Northumbrian Water, Durham County Council and the Environment Agency are working with communities to proactively reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses and protect the environment. As part of this commitment, we are working with our supply partner, Esh-Stantec, to undertake work to improve the performance of the sewer network in South Stanley. Phase one of the works is well underway in the Park road area, whilst phase two of the scheme will begin on 7 April 2026, investing a further £3.8 million into improving the sewer network. This essential work will ensure that the sewer network continues to serve the community effectively and reducing the risk of flooding in your area. The work will take around 13 months to complete and will involve the construction of new sewers to transfer surface water, from roof and road areas to the Stanley Burn. The work will take place in the streets around Avon Road, Wansbeck Avenue, Tees Crescent, Tweed Terrace, Kier Hardie Avenue, Marx Crescent and Lenin Terrace. To enable us to undertake the work safely, we will need to temporarily close some roads in the areas where we are working and during these times, parking will be restricted. We will notify you in advance of any road closures that are required and we will maintain pedestrian access to your property at all times. We also need to remove two trees in the grassed area north of Lenin Terrace and one tree along Avon Road, and we will be replacing these with new trees after our work has been completed. In addition to this work, we will also be undertaking site investigations to help with the development of solutions for further improvements to the sewer network, across the South Stanley and Craghead area.We will be setting up a site compound and materials storage area in a grassed area adjacent to Holly Hill Gardens, and this will be reinstated on completion. A plan is enclosed showing where the work will take place. Please be assured that we are working closely with Durham County Council to minimise our impact on the local community. Typical working hours will be Monday to Friday, between 8.00am and 6.00pm.If you would like to speak to a member of our Project Team, you can telephone our customer contact centre on 0345 717 1100, via X @nwater_care or contact us via our community hub. Whichever way is best, we’d really like to hear from you. Thank you,The Project Team

Project Update 23/04/2026

Community Hub Admin Team •2 months ago Hi everyone,We just wanted to provide an update on work Northumbrian Water is currently carrying out in your area in conjunction with North Tyneside Council and the Environment Agency. As part of our investigations into bathing water quality issues in Cullercoats, we are currently undertaking exploratory excavation works to the rear of Beverley Terrace. These investigations are an important step in helping us better understand and address the issues identified. To allow this work to be completed safely, a temporary road closure is in place to the rear of Beverley Terrace, between John Street and Marden Avenue. This road closure will remain in place until 28 April 2026. While the road will reopen from this date, work in the area will continue until 5 May 2026.Our working hours on site are 8:00am to 5:00pm. Once all works in this area have been completed, we will provide a further update. We understand that road closures can be inconvenient and would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to minimise disruption. Our site team has also confirmed that if household bins are placed at their usual collection point during the road closure, they will ensure they are moved to a suitable location so they can still be emptied as normal.Alongside these works, we are continuing with our monitoring and sampling regime as part of the wider investigation. This ongoing sampling will allow us to collect a full and reliable set of data over time.We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause and thank you for your patience while these important investigations continue. If you need any assistance during the works, our site team will be on hand and happy to help.Thank you,The Project Team

Project Update & Customer Poll 14/04/2026

Community Hub Admin Team •2 months ago Hi everyone,As we enter the final phase of the Westerton Reservoir Abandonment Project, we feel this is the ideal time to share the ideas put forward by residents during our customer engagement event on 30 January 2026 at the Park Head Hotel. These ideas relate to the final reinstatement of the Village Green.Firstly, thank you for attendance and for the valuable feedback you provided. Your comments have helped shape not only this project, but also how we plan and deliver future work. During the event, we invited suggestions on how we might give something back to the community in recognition of your patience throughout the works. We are now keen to understand which ideas the majority of residents would be most happy with. This will allow us to begin discussions with Durham County Council, as custodians of the land, and ensure all agreed improvements can be implemented before we withdraw from site. The two main suggestions were: Plant pots and planting, supplied by NWL and positioned in locations agreed by residents. The NWL project team colleagues will be happy to support the planting on a voluntary basis. A bench or seating area for community use. Additionally, we would be happy to provide both seating, Plants and Potts as a legacy gift to the Village. You can take part in the poll by clicking HERE.Alternatively, we will be sending a text message to all customers with a link to the survey so you can vote for your preferred option. Once a final decision has been reached, we will work with Durham County Council to finalise and complete the chosen option.Separately, we will be resurfacing the two private roads on either side of the Village Green to ensure a smooth and durable finish for residents.Thank you again for your continued patience and involvement. We look forward to receiving your feedback and completing this final phase together. The Project Team
