Following the information shared on Friday 10 July, we wanted to provide you with a further update regarding the construction works.
As previously advised, an active colony of sand martins has been identified nesting within the coastal bank adjacent to the proposed work area. As this species and its active nests are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, construction activities remain suspended to ensure the nesting colony is protected.
Our ecology team is continuing to assess and monitor the area to determine when it is appropriate for works to recommence. This assessment is ongoing and is being carried out in accordance with environmental legislation and best practice. At this stage, we anticipate that it will be a minimum of three weeks before we are able to return to site.
Once the ecology team has completed the next stage of the assessment, we will review the findings and provide you with a further update after this three-week period, including any confirmed timescales for returning to site.
