Important update on planned work in your area
At Northumbrian Water, looking after the environment is one of our top priorities. We are investing £1.7 billion between 2025 and 2030 in a major environmental programme to reduce storm overflow (SO) spills and help improve the environment.
For this period, we have committed to improving 170 storm overflows, including the areas of, Houghton-le-Spring, Westbourne Drive, & Ross-Lea.
- Details of the Works, Houghton-le-Spring:
The upcoming surveys will involve trial pit and boreholes at multiple locations within the woodland area near to Travers Street. Work is set to begin on Monday, 01 December 2025, with completion expected by Monday, 22 December 2025.
- Details of the Works, Westbourne Drive:
The upcoming surveys will involve trial pit and boreholes at multiple locations within the recreational on Westbourne Drive between Wright terrace & Galashiels Grove. Work is set to begin on Monday, 01 December 2025, with completion expected by Monday, 22 December 2025.
- Details of the Works, Ross-Lea:
The upcoming surveys will involve trial pit and boreholes at multiple locations within the recreational field adjacent to Ross-Lea. A small site compound will also be installed at this location and manned during the hours of 07:30-16:00. Work is set to begin on Monday, 01 December 2025, with completion expected by Monday, 22 December 2025.
