Go to the project
Hi everyone 👋
We wanted to share an update on the important work we’re planning in your area to help improve the local environment 🌿
🌍 What’s happening?
We’re investing £1.7 billion between 2025 and 2030 to reduce storm overflow discharges and protect our environment 💧
As part of this programme, we’ll be making improvements to 170 locations, including sites in the Hawthorn area.
🛠️ What work is planned?
Following earlier engagement with you (thank you to everyone who shared feedback 🙌), we’re continuing to develop our plans alongside our delivery partner Mott MacDonald Bentley.
The current proposal includes:
- An underground Sewerage Pumping Station (SPS)
- New pipework to transfer flows to Seaham Sewerage Treatment Works
🔍 What’s happening next?
Over the coming months, specialist teams will begin:
- Site surveys
- Ground investigations
These are really important in helping us design the best and least disruptive solution possible ✅
📅 Expected timeline:
- Surveys & investigations: through summer 2026
- Construction: anticipated in 2027
We’ll keep you updated as plans progress.
