Go to the project

Hello everyone

We hope you've been enjoying the start of autumn. We'd like to take this opportunity to share some of the progress made across the site over the past month, as well as some of the activities planned for the weeks ahead.

Birney Hill Pumping Station (BHPS) :

Work has been progressing well at our Birney Hill Pumping Station.

  • Several repairs and safety improvements have been completed, including works to pipe supports, drainage equipment, handrails, lighting and signage
  • The team is now progressing well with the detailed design for the replacement pipework and penstocks, which are large gates/ valves that are used to control the flow of water through pipes, channels, tanks or treatment chambers.

Upcoming work:

Pipe layouts are being finalised, supplier information is being prepared, and the main site works are continuing.

Chlorine Contact Tank:

Good progress has been made on the new contact tank.

  • Most of the roof panels are now installed. With concrete works to the walls, roof and other supporting structures are nearing competition.
  • The new inlet pipe has passed its pressure tests, while work is still progressing on the outlet pipe, flowmeter chamber and other connecting pipework.

Upcoming work:

Over the coming weeks, the team will complete the tank roof, alongside carrying out waterproofing and water testing, installing further pipework and beginning to backfill the completed excavation areas.
